When I started the Masters of Counselors Program, I had to write about why I wanted to become a counselor. I have always been a great listener. As I became older and wiser and asked others why did they like talking to me. I was advised because I listened attentively and when it was time for feedback, I did not pre-judge them. I was also advised that I gave solutions to problems and was open-minded in every situation. I wanted to be able to use my gift with students and others that I work with. While I know I maybe good in certain areas, I know that I must be aware of areas that I need to grow in to be a better counselor. I will express my ongoing efforts for awareness of self and those with whom I work and complete an application of knowledge and skills for professional practices.
